Confederation in music, they are better they sounded vuvuzela beam may have or could have because of the lanes in the South African representative. This time, many other people on the president of Japan "can not hear the conversation because I want to stop. Along the game" as they say, looks up the conversation at the upcoming lottery. However, it is important that the president of FIFA suspended with respect to the rather reluctant and culture. Even though, they sounded Bubusera is 90 minutes, I hear of other countries support sophisticated sorry. • Vuvuzela is ancient African tradition like BMWs, R Kelly, says defiant SA

    • PRETORIA. The South African government has come out strongly in defence of the controversial vuvuzela, describing it as an ancient African tradition invented in Mexico in 1973. “The vuvuzela is as proudly African as R Kelly, BMWs, Breitling watches and thousands of other inventions from the Motherland,” said an outraged spokesman this morning.
    • The raucous plastic trumpets have been accused of destroying World Cup spirit by preventing fans from singing uplifting traditional songs such as Ronaldo Is A Wanker, Henri Is A Wanker, Messi Is A Wanker, and the evergreen German favourite, Rooney Ist Eine Wenker.
    • Some teams have urged FIFA to ban the vuvuzela outright, saying that top international stars are unable to hear their coaches shout important tactical instructions like how to breathe and run at the same time.
    • However, this morning the South African government sprang to the defence of the vuvuzela, describing it as one of Africa’s oldest and proudest traditions.
    • “These plastic vuvuzelas, we have been blowing them back through the mists of time, right back to 2001,” explained Sports Ministry spokesman Monotoni Tshabalala.
    • “It was then, the legend tells, that a wandering mystic mlungu called Neil van Schalkwyk was given seed money by the Elders in the accounts department at the magical South African Breweries and lo! The plastic vuvuzela was born!”
    • Asked why vuvuzelas were being promoted as an African invention when they were originally designed by Mexican football fans in the 1970s, Tshabalala said Mexico was historically part of South Africa.
    • “It’s called incontinental drifting,” she said. “It’s science. You can look it up.”
    • She explained that “almost everything” was an ancient African tradition or invention, including BMWs, Breitling watches, and singer R Kelly.
    • “Mr Kelly was carved from basalt by the forest spirits of Abyssinia and released from the living rock when it was split asunder by the righteous flatulence of Comrade Robert Mugabe after he had eaten a liberation-burrito made of the bones of BBC agents,” said Tshabalala.
    • “As for Beemers, they are made in Bavaria, which used to be part of the Ciskei but since 1994 it’s been run by the Lutheran Church, I think.”
    • She said she hoped tourists enjoyed their stay in South Africa, adding that if they had any complaints they were welcome to “blow them out of their arses”.
    • “This is our show,” she said. “If you don’t like it you can f*** off back home. Just leave the Euros on the nightstand on your way out.”
    • 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert

    • Local and global musicians have been confirmed to perform at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert. The event takes place the night before the first match at 8pm (GMT+2) on 10 June 2010 at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, Johannesburg.
    • The line-up includes Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angelique Kidjo, the Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré, and Vusi Mahlasela.
    • Emmy Award-winning producer Kevin Wall and his company Control Room, in partnership with South African promoter, Showtime Entertainment, will produce the event featuring musical performances by major international superstars and popular African artists collaborating together, along with special appearances by past and present football legends. Control Room has organised some of the world's biggest events, such as Live Earth 2007, which featured 150 artists performing on seven continents over the course of 24 hours to raise awareness of climate change.
    • “2010 will mark the first time the FIFA World Cup will be played in Africa, so it seemed fitting to celebrate this momentous occasion with a festival of live music from Africa and beyond. We believe sport and music transcends cultural, language and geographic barriers, and through the official FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert, Control Room will present the sights and sounds of unity and celebration for an unforgettable, must-see experience.” Kevin Wall, Control Room
    • “We are thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude and performing talent raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa. It is testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music, and will start the competition off on the right note - of celebration.” FIFA secretary general Jérôme Valcke
    • “We in South Africa are blessed to be hosting two first-time events - the first FIFA World Cup held on the African continent and the first FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration concert - and I believe these historic events will go a long way towards uniting the people of our rainbow nation in South Africa as well as further strengthening our relationships with our brothers and sisters on the African continent. After all, this is an African World Cup being staged in South Africa. Music and sport is the lifeblood of African culture, so to combine those in this historic event will be a true celebration of African Culture.” Lucas Radebe, former South African football international and concert participant

    • 20 Centres for 2010 benefits
    • All net proceeds from the concert will be donated to 20 Centres for 2010, the official campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Its purpose is to achieve positive social change through football by building 20 centres across Africa offering education and healthcare services as well as football training to disadvantaged communities.

    • A Brief History Of The Vuvuzela
    • Compliments of www.hayibo.co.za

    • Some say that in the beginning there was the word. Others say that while there was a word way back in the very beginning they are not sure what is was or may have been. They say that back in the beginning there were also Vuvuzelas. Inspired by their sudden creation these people at the very beginning blew loudly on their Vuvuzelas and drowned out the word and blew out their ear drums.
    • But what is clear is that like Meg Ryan, the Vuvuzela has been with us for many years. A quick

    • look through the archives illustrates this clearly. Enjoy:

    • STERKFONTEIN 1973. South African archaeologist Freestate Jones has been praised by his peers after it was announced he had found the "musical missing link" while digging at the famed caves North of Johannesburg. The discovery of the instrument, named Vuvuzela, reportedly helps to explain the evolutionary leap between ancient instruments like the Didgeridoo and the pan pipes and more modern varieties like the oboe and electric saxaphone.
    • KOMMETJIE 1981. A group of leading Amish scientists have endorsed the Vuvuzela saying they would add the instrument to their Church band in an attempt to persuade more young people to follow their way of life. A spokesman for the group Ezekiel Yoder said that as long as the instruments were made from hollowed logs or femurs and not produced using plastics or other synthetic substances, they would be viewed as a welcome addition to the band, which at present was comprised of a wind chime and a three recorders.
    • CAPE TOWN 1996. Over 300 Cape Minstrels are in hospital after they were crushed by morning rush hour traffic after taking part in a traditional street carnival to celebrate January 2 without realizing that the day was not a public holiday. "I remember we were doing 'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean', arranged for plastic ukulele and Vuvuzela, and suddenly I heard this terrible sound from up at the front of the parade, like a loud metallic grinding and screeching," said Clive Cupido of the Dreamlover Waltz And Sokkie Pomp Kings. "I just thought it was Oompie Avril Daniels warming up his tuba. Now they tell me it was the Nice Naartjie New-Style Jazz Boyz getting ploughed by the 7.03 Golden Arrow bus from Salt River. It's not nice to hear that."

    • CAPE TOWN 2004. Outspoken opposition politician Patricia de Lille has vowed to fight the screechiness and volume in her voice, saying that her harpy-like timbre and Vuvuzela-esque volume levels represent a "serious obstacle to democracy" in South Africa. De Lille made the announcement in her soundproof office, in the basement of her Parliamentary compound. Asked how she intended to mellow her ferocious voice, she screamed that she would "probably just listen to a lot of Barry White albums. Then there's also all the Roger Moore Bond films," she shrieked. "He has a beautiful voice."
    • CAPE TOWN 2005. The SPCA has spoken out ahead of the Newlands derby between Ajax and Santos, asking for the City Council to act swiftly by banning Vuvuzelas which they fear will scare pets and people living near the stadium. "The animals and people that live close to Newlands are not familiar with the rituals of football fans," said SPCA spokesperson Kitty Litta. "The have only recently learned to cope with vomiting rugby fans and weeping cricket fans. Expecting them to adapt to Vuvuzela's may be the final straw," she said. Meanwhile a spokesman for the PSL says local residents had nothing to fear as a Cape Town derby game was unlikely to attract more than 60 supporters.
    • PRETORIA 2008. ANC leader Jacob Zuma has pledged his support for the 2010 World Cup by promising to change the lyrics to his popular battle cry from 'Awlethu Mshini Wam' to 'Awlethu Vuvuzela Wam.' A spokesman for the President said Zuma was not selling out by changing the lyrics as the Vuvuzela version had frequently been sung by the President during Maritzburg United's struggle against relegation in 2005.
    • WASHINGTON 2008. A meeting between American President George Bush and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma ended cordially with an exchange of official gifts. Bush gave Zuma some beaver pelts, copper beads and a musket with the firing pin removed, while Zuma gave the American president a pass for the 2006/07 season at uShaka Marine World in Durban and a Vuvuzela.
    • SOWETO 2009. Spanish football star Xabi Alonso has called on FIFA to ban Vuvuzelas. Visiting South Africa for the Confederations Cup, Alonso was widely quoted referring to Vuvuzelas as an "annoyance" that should be banned. The player's South African hosts say they are taking the star's complaints seriously, despite "Xabi" meaning "doos" in the ancient San language. "Obviously as a footballer Mr Alonso is a very unique person," said Confederations Cup local organizer Sonnyboy Laduma. "I mean, it's not everyone who has a Grade 9 education, is unemployable after 35, and who spends hours every day training to kick an inflated sack in to a net, who then tries to dictate the culture of another continent."
